I love this picture, taken on Halloween when we were living in Galway, Ireland. Happy Halloweeeeen from 23Postcards!
Category Archives: daily musings
1. The Atlanta Braves making into the NLDS.
2. My first camping trip! I went this past weekend… Perfect fall weather, colored leaves and a great air mattress – I’m hooked!
3. Vintage wallpaper.
4. A new business opportunity came into my life very recently… I am now a consultant for Rodan and Fields Dermatologists! Rodan and Fields are the doctors who created Proactive, and they have pulled their best-selling anti-age system out of high-end department stores and have put it into direct sales. This isn’t a line of business I ever thought I would be part of, but I couldn’t pass this up!
‘Love Notes’ is finally finished and up in the Etsy Shop! I received the finishing touches in the mail today from Artsy Dove, and I am so happy to share the final product! The photograph is of my maternal grandfather in his barracks during the Korean War. The notes in the left corner were written on the back of the photograph, which was sent to my grandmother (his new bride). The notes say, “Here I is writing to you Honey” (a joke between them), “See our wedding picture up in the right hand corner?” and “Your big one is just on the other side of it” …
Also new in the Shop:
So now that the business side of this whole shebang is relatively squared away, I finally found myself back in the studio tonight! It was so fun being in there with paint all over my hands and new techniques on the canvas.
When I was working with a designer on a blog design (coming!) a while back, I had to go through everything in the studio to pick out my favorite things. It was completely worth it, however, when I opened the doors at the beginning of the weekend, it truly looked like a tornado had come through. I was able to move a few things out of the room, and I could at least walk inside, but the best change I made was taking out all of the printing/scanning equipment. It feels so much more open, and I can’t wait to get some organizational shelving units for all of the ephemera that seems to be growing exponentially!
Speaking of… my mom (and unofficial 23Postcards ephemera buyer) was in Maine last week, and she came home with some amazing finds!
Here’s a sneak peek of the piece I started tonight:
I was also able to finish the ‘Love Story‘ piece that I just hadn’t been able to get a handle on! It had such a promising beginning, but the more I worked on it, the more I was losing direction… So after not looking at it for over a month, I revisited it tonight and finally had a breakthrough! It turned out to be a really special piece, but I’ll go into more details when I show the finished product! I will post pictures of it soon, and look for more listings in the Etsy shop this week!
Things around here have been a little crazy the past couple weeks, and a lot of big things have been happening…
My friend/boss Tori had her baby on the 18th, and Anna Greer has been such a fun addition to our work days!
And, in 23Postcards news, I had my first sale in the Etsy shop! I have no idea how the buyer found my shop, but I’m thrilled (a sale made all of this seem so real). I hope she loves the ‘Orange‘ photograph! I still have so much work to do on the shop (getting the rest of my mixed media pieces listed, researching shipping, etc.), but I am excited about what’s to come.
Don’t you love these stickers from Scrappinren Creations?! I want everyone to have a few special touches on their packages from me, and I was thrilled to find these!
So please pardon the hiatus… I’m back!
My life lately has primarily existed on the interstate. After a quick trip to Wild Dunes and the week in Arkansas, I was home for a day before loading back up and heading to Atlanta for the weekend.
We went straight to Turner Field for a Braves game where we had ridiculous seats right behind the Braves dugout. My 8-year-old brother (who is obsessed with MLB baseball and especially the Braves) got two balls (one tossed to him by 1st baseman Troy Glaus, the other from 1st base coach Glenn Hubbard!), caught a t-shirt AND was on the jumbo tron… he said it was the best night of his life. It was pretty legendary. To top off a great game, Sara Evans gave a concert on the field right after.
The next day we had a fun brunch and a trip to Anthropologie, my very favorite store. It’s a visual candyland- everywhere I turned I was inspired by their displays and products… my favorites this trip were a postcard bedspread(!) and an incredible display filled with the most interesting ways to hold books, from drawers on the wall to shelves made of hardbacks sitting on brackets. We have already plotted a project to do based on what we saw!
The weekend ended with my great uncle Ed’s 95th birthday party, where he and my brother did one arm pushups beside the cake. It was a perfect weekend trip!
I am home now for the long haul, and I can finally dig in (with all of the legalities in order) and get the 23Postcards Etsy shop open!
I have thoroughly dropped the ball on the blog lately… it all started with a weekend trip to Wild Dunes with my best friend Emily for my birthday. Sitting on the beach reading delightful books, lounging in the pool and hitting our favorite places for dinners made for the perfect way to ring in my 24th year! Back in Tennessee the next night, I gathered with family and friends for one last birthday hoorah and pizza at Big Ed’s. I love birthdays!!
I was only home for three days before heading to Arkansas to visit family, and that’s where you’ll find me now, at Norfork Lake, sitting on a deck overlooking the water and a great sunset. My mom said this is her favorite place in the world (I haven’t been here since I was 4), and I can see why!
In business news, my sales tax form finally ARRIVED! This is the last piece of the ‘starting a new business’ puzzle, and I am so excited to get home and get going on the Etsy shop!
To make up for the birthday break, I’ll be doing two ‘Pictures from Europe’ this week!
In a lovely chain of events, it turns out that the sales tax form I have been checking the mailbox for everyday was never processed in the first place! After speaking with some nice (and some not-so-nice) women in Nashville, we discovered that a problem occurred in the online filing of the application so nothing was ever confirmed. The application has once again been completed, so back to waiting…
In true Pollyanna form (thank goodness I have a mother who made me watch it a million times while I was growing up), I will be glad this happened and look at it as an opportunity to make sure every last detail of the business (getting the settings on my new printer just right, having prints on hand and ready to package, organizing shipping supplies, perfecting the Etsy shop policies, etc.) is settled. That way, the day the tax form arrives, 23Postcards will officially be open for business on Etsy!
Here’s a look at a very special piece I did for my boss/friend Tori. (The photos are her mom/grandmother and her dad.) I think it might be my new favorite piece…
Two steps forward, one step back… Why is it that right when you turn the corner and can see the finish line, obstacles seem to pop up much more frequently?
As I wait in vain for the elusive sales tax form, I am rushing to get all other matters settled. Today, my gorgeous new printer arrived, so now I can be completely ready to go when the form arrives! Let’s hope I can get the settings just right…
On a happier note, my fabulous designer has been working on my website (!). I can’t wait to show you the finished product, but for now, I am knee-deep in ephemera as I get her the materials she needs to finish. I have been collecting the perfect bits and bobs to send to her, and I hope it turns out as wonderful as I imagine!
Although I was dreading going through all my boxes, drawers and bags of goodies, I will admit it was fun finding all my old favorites that I haven’t laid eyes on in a while! I can’t wait to see what makes it into the design!
